Is your hair ready for a fresh look? Summer is here, the season of new beginnings and we can’t think of a better time to try something different. We’ve been checking out the best summer hair trends for 2017 straight from the catwalk and sported by celebs.
World renowned hair specialist Pep Pasqualino and his team of Colour Specialists give us their opinions and tips on this season’s top trends…
Red Hot Locks
Red; the colour that keeps on giving. Be it subtle hints of rose gold or show stopping pillar box red, it’s been on the hot list through 2016 and there’s no sign of it fading away. If you want something bold yet still natural looking try Copper, a rich, bright tone which flatters and warms complexions, favoured by Emma Stone.
Our Colour Specialists say ‘We’re seeing so much red at the moment; everyone wants this warm shade in their life. The key to staying on trend is keeping it vibrant. This can be done with regular salon visits and by using either Paul Mitchell’s Color Protect shampoo and conditioner or, for the more vibrant red colours, Paul Mitchell’s Ultimate Color Repair shampoo and conditioner.’
Cool Grey Tones for Tresses
Fancy cooling things down as we enter the warmer months? Then Grey is for you.
Frosty and icy all over colours create a futuristic vibe, particularly when teamed with pastel undertones such as lavender. However if you’re not quite ready to commit we suggest trying silver blonde with a grey shimmer, for an understated modern tint. As with red hues, colour refreshes are vital if you want your hue to stay vivid. We also recommend using Paul Mitchell’s Platinum Blonde shampoo to banish brassiness.
Blonde: The Classic Shade for Summer
Blonde is the classic colour for summer. For decades women have been reaching for the bleach once the sun makes an appearance. Why break tradition? The colour really does complement tanned skin and guarantees a summery feel, even if the sun doesn’t always hold out.
The team suggest ‘Experiment with new versions of blonde, you don’t have to stick to the same old highlights. Try Balayage for natural looking tones; remember roots are in. Or maybe an all over honey colour to add warmth and include some subtle baby blonde highlights around the face to brighten things up’.
If you really want to lighten up, take a cue from celebs such as Kim Kardashian or Taylor Swift and go Platinum. Cool and sophisticated this brave shade is great if you want to stand out. However roots are best re-touched regularly with this style, to keep things crisp. We also recommend using Paul Mitchell’s Forever Blonde shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair in tip top condition.
Poker Straight Hair
The nod to the nineties continues as we see poker straight hair making a comeback. Sleek and chic, it’s obvious why this trend was all over the S/S 17 catwalks – it’s so easy. Hair straighteners and smoothing serum is all that is required to create this high end fashion look. Don’t forget the heat protection spray too such as Paul Mitchell’s Hot off the Press – your locks will thank you for it!
70s Hair is Back
In contrast to slick, poker straight do’s, 70s hair is having a revival and is particularly perfect for summer festivals. Think long, free flowing hair with plaits, braids and flowery accessories. A lot of people try to create beachy/boho waves but this year there is an emphasis on letting the hair do its own thing. Big curls and loose, subtle waves are both in. Give your natural hair a helping hand with texturising products such as Paul Mitchell’s Re-works or Spray Wax.
Will you be playing it cool this summer with super sleek locks and pastel tones? Or do you fancy heating things up with a vivid shade of red? Whatever you choose we can’t wait to see you in salon to help create your new signature style.
